Today's consultation dealt primarily with body type and image. I started by complimenting Simone on her recent weight loss and I asked her what her trouble spots were. She expressed that her hips were the bane of her existence and that she was regularly working out to decrease them. I encouraged her to be mindful of her diet and food intake and that she should be proud of what her body had done thus far. So often women say "I'll be happy when I reach this weight or I'll start dating when I can fit into these jeans" I don't believe in that sort of negative inner talk. Though it is important to state realistic goals and hold yourself accountable, it's also important important to congratulate your body when it starts to form to your liking. Celebrate yourself now and your body will be better for it!

Body Type:
Simone is a classic Endomorph. Though she is tall (5,10) her body is very curvy at the bottom and petite at the top. The layman’s term for this body type would be “pear shaped” As stated before, Simone has lost a considerable amount of weight dropping from a size 22 to a size 10. I have advised her to keep striving for her weight loss goals, working out 5 days week, sticking to a diet high in fruits, vegetables and grain with little to no meat. Endomorpohs tend to but on fat easily, so in order to maintain or lose weight she has to be diligent in her exercise and diet habits. I also believe that the endorphins aka “natural high” she gets will lead to a happy disposition, help with stress and help her from sliding into poor habits or behaviors from her past. Endomorphs tend to have a high fat capacity and they tend to put fat on pretty easily. The majority of body weight for the Endomorph is centered in the middle of the body, hips, buttocks and thighs. All areas that Simone would like to hide until she reaches her final goal of losing another 20 pounds. Simone expressed concerns about not “fitting in” with her counterparts and peers who are all Caucasian women. I took a considerable amount of time to remind her that what you have they want and vice-versus. I took her to the bathroom and repeated her mantra for her of “I am Intelligent, Curvy and Vivacious".
You know you're a Pear-shape when:
1. You have a well-defined waist
2. Your bust and shoulders are proportionally narrower than your hip-line
3. Your thighs and maybe your butt might be full and rounded
